I wish to clarify the statement that is attributed to the Warkworth Bowling Club in the second paragraph of the article ‘Bowling club site key to town’s future’ (MM Aug 31). I want it known that the club members, at a special general meeting last year, rejected a development proposal from the Real Living Group. It was not about the cost of the offer or of any individual of the Real Living Group board as reported.
Bowls Warkworth has thanked the Real Living Group for their assurance to remain our principal sponsor again this year.

Charges need re-think
I am writing to express my concern about the proposed road user charges reported (MM Sept 7). The indicative fees of $3-$4 in the morning and $2-$3 in the afternoon may be intended to reduce congestion and encourage public transport, but in reality they will penalise people who have no choice about when they travel.
Most workers must commute during peak times, and this charge could add up to around $91 per fortnight, which is a significant extra cost for households already struggling to make ends meet.
Many people are doing their best to manage rising living costs, and adding another compulsory fee feels like bureaucracy taking more money from those who can least afford it. I ask the council to reconsider this proposal, or at least explore fairer alternatives that do not financially punish essential workers simply for travelling to and from their jobs.
